GSB Alumni Foundation
At every UCT GSB Alumni Reunion Weekend, we raise money – whether it be for bursaries through the GSB Alumni Foundation or to create new spaces for our students, we are proud of the generosity of our alumni to give back to our school.
In addition to an auction on Friday 10 October, we are also asking you to participate in a photography competition.
AFRICA//UNCROPPED
No filters. No clichés. Just life
Show us Africa – unedited, unfiltered, and unapologetically real.
From bustling city streets to quiet rural moments, from the diaspora’s global pulse to the unstoppable energy of youth – your lens shapes the story.
Whether you shoot with a smartphone or a DSLR, now’s your chance to share your view of Africa’s vibrancy, complexity, and raw beauty.
Categories – Snap Your Africa:
1. Hustle and Flow
The raw energy of African business – from street vendors to startups.
Example: A vendor stacking fruit at dawn, a coding team in a shipping container.
2. “Now and Then”
Contrast your GSB days vs your life now
Example: a lecture theatre vs a boardroom, your favourite 80s clothes to now, friends you still hang out with
3. My Africa, My Rules
Freeform, any styles goes
Example: Harvesting fruit, traffic jams, street murals
4. Game On
Sport as identity, passion, and escape.
Example: Dusty soccer fields, enthusiastic fans, kids racing down alleys.
5. What The ... Africa?
Surreal, hilarious, or just mad moments you had to capture.
Example: Goats in a minibus, weddings on a bakkie, powerlines holding up laundry.
6. Young, Loud and Unstoppable
Youth culture, rebellion, and brilliance now.
Example: Protestors, TikTok dancers, kids inventing toys from scrap.
7. Africa, Out There
How Africa lives far from home.
Example: Jollof cook-offs in London, traditional dress on a metro, family gatherings abroad.
