Check if you’re eligible for admission

The UCT GSB has rigorous selection criteria for all postgraduate programmes in place to ensure that each class has students of a high calibre who are committed to succeeding. The criteria differ from programme to programme, please check programme specific pages to see if you meet the requirements.

Follow application process

Complete the UCT and the GSB online application and courier or deliver the required supporting hardcopy documentation to the UCT GSB admissions office. Please note that you may be required to take admissions test and participate in an interview. Please note, the application process varies for each postgraduate programme, check programme specific pages to see if you meet the requirements.

Receive firm / conditional offer

You will receive ongoing communication from our admissions team throughout your application process. A status e-mail from the admissions team will be sent to you once you have submitted your application. If you application is successful you will receive a firm or conditional offer for the programme.

Attend UCT GSB Orientation

Postgraduate candidates are required to attend orientation which takes place in the first module of each programme. Orientation at UCT is a series of events and activities designed to help you explore all that awaits you at the UCT GSB. You'll meet people, find out about resources on campus, learn how to find your way around campus and have some fun too.

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an internationally recognised test measuring verbal, quantitative and reasoning skills. The GMAT is required for admission into the GSB MBA programme. Find out more.

Once all criteria of your application have been met, i.e., we have the GMAT, MCPA and/or NBT results, as well as all the necessary documentation, the application will be submitted for review to the Admissions Board at the next scheduled board meeting. Suitable candidates will then be contacted for an interview. Once the interview is complete, candidates would ordinarily receive an answer within three weeks.

No. Interviews are conducted in major city centres locally as well as internationally. In the event that we do not have an interviewer in your area, the interview will be conducted telephonically or via video call.

Funding is limited, and we urge all applicants to seek funding from other sources such as employer sponsorship or a student loan. We will, however, do our utmost to assist a student in need.

No. South African and African permanent residents and citizens pay a minimum of 50% of the fees before registration. The balance of fees must be paid by the end of June of that year. International students are required to pay their full fees before registration. Please refer to the Fees Handbook at http://www.uct.ac.za/apply/fees.

The IELTS and TOEFL are English language proficiency tests. The UCT GSB uses English as a medium of instruction and examination. An international applicant whose first language is not English has to write either the IELTS or the TOEFL test. You do not have to wait for the results of your TOEFL or IELTS test, to apply to GSB. If the English proficiency test results have not arrived before you wish to submit in your application, put a note in with your application package, stating that you will be submitting the proficiency test results separately. Try to give a predicted date on which this will be done. Your application cannot be completely processed before the TOEFL/IELTS results have been received; however, some preliminary assessments can be made.
