MPHIL IN INCLUSIVE INNOVATION ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

The MPhil in Inclusive Innovation has the following requirements:

  • Applicants must hold at least an NQF level 8 qualification in Applied Science, Commerce, Humanities, Health Sciences, Arts, and other related degrees. Alternatively, applicants who have a three-year degree with relevant prior work experience may apply as an RPL candidate (Recognition of Prior Learning). Candidates with a non-South African qualification may need to verify the equivalence to a South African degree.
  • Students must be fluent in spoken and written English. The UCT GSB Admissions Board could require a TOEFL for applicants whose mother tongue is not English or who have not received a degree from an English university. The Board also takes motivation essays, standardised assessments, and interviews into account with regard to English proficiency. Final decision at the discretion of the Board. For more information on UCT’s English Language Requirements click here.
  • Applicants must have already demonstrated a desire for solving problems within the key themes of education, health, finance and digital inclusion; or have a passion to pursue an area they have already researched substantially.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ work experience.

Requirements for returning MPhil students:

Due to the updated MPhil curriculum students enrolled in the previous curriculum (up to 2024) will need to give additional motivation as to their continuation in the program and their ability to complete a 50 000 word thesis.

  • Detailed motivation as to why there was a break in registration and what has changed/been put in place for the student to return now (minimum two page document)
  • Update on research, where the student ended off with research and detailed plan for continuation and completion including key milestones (proposal approval, ethics approval, data collection completion, draft chapter completion, intention to submit and final submission signed by supervisor and then this will be reflected in the MoU when enrolling, if the application is successful).
  • Written confirmation that a GSB supervisor has been secured (email is sufficient, must be from supervisor and directly to program director. Note that supervisors must be part of GSB faculty for returners)
