Prof John Luiz


John Luiz is Professor of International Management at the University of Sussex in the UK, and the UCT GSB, specialising in International Management Strategy; Business, Society, and Government; and Emerging Markets. Previously, he served as Director of International Relations at the UCT GSB and was responsible for amongst other things international accreditation and international strategy and partnerships, and successfully took the School through AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accreditation. Before that he was a Professor at the Wits Business School and served in various capacities including as their Director of International Programmes and as Academic Director. He was Executive Dean in the Faculty of Management at the University of Johannesburg.   He was a Visiting Scholar at UCLA in 1999, 2006 and 2011, at the Università degli Studi di Macerata, Italy in 2015, a Senior Global Fellow at the School of Public Policy and Institute for Advanced Study at the Central European University in Budapest, and the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin in 2016, a Visiting Professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile 2011-2013, and a Research Affiliate at Columbia University in 2006.

Besides winning various teaching awards, Luiz has published in excess of 180 publications including over 100 articles in leading journals. He is the co-author and/or editor of several books; Senior Editor at the International Journal of Emerging Markets; and on the editorial board of several journals including the .Journal of International Business Policy, and Transnational Corporations.
