Dr Simon le Roux le Roux
Simon is a Senior Medical Officer at Victoria Hospital with a background in anaesthesia, having worked across both rural and urban district hospitals since qualifying from Stellenbosch University in 2007.
He holds the DA (SA) and a Procedural Sedation and Analgesia Certificate, and has a particular interest in strengthening surgical capacity at district level. Simon is currently leading collaborative work with Madwaleni and Zithulele hospitals in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, through the UCT Global Surgery Development Programme, where he is focused on re-imagining and expanding surgical services for extremely rural communities.
His clinical and academic interests span anaesthesia, maternal health – particularly making anaesthesia safer for mothers – and surgical capacity building in resource-constrained settings. He is also passionate about using film and video to tell the story of Global Surgery on the African continent as a means to advocate for greater equity in access to care.
With a strong commitment to diplomacy and partnership-building, both locally and internationally, Simon is an active member of professional bodies including the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (SASA) and SOSPOSA.
