Professor Randall Carolissen has held senior academic appointments at several higher education and research institutions including as Dean of the University of Johannesburg Business School and chairperson of the University of the Witwatersrand Council. 

As head of the South African Revenue Services (SARS) Academy, he redesigned curricula to meet adult learning criteria and introduced technology-based teaching material to ensure coverage of the core business of modernized customs and tax administration.
