Event information

Synergy Global Consulting, in partnership with the Graduate School of Business (GSB), University of Cape Town (UCT), are hosting a Dialogue on social performance, a tribute to the life and work of Synergy’s former Director, Paul Kapelus.

This in-person event is designed to promote engagement, reflection and inspiration; and forms part of GSB and Synergy’s partnership on building social performance capability in the private sector across Africa.

The session will consider:

  • Are retreats in ESG and corporate restructuring pushing social performance into terminal decline?
  • Is social performance simply missing in inaction – failing to demonstrate it is delivering the social outcomes it promised?
  • Is it just hibernating – quietly carrying on good work while keeping under the radar and waiting to re-emerge once the hard times have passed?
  • What does the future look like - Does the rush for critical minerals and shifting global politics mean that social performance needs a reset?

What you will gain from attending the event:

  • Expert perspectives on the current state-of-play in social performance in the mining sector.
  • Critical insights on the key successes and failures of social performance in delivering value.
  • Inspiration on how social performance can adapt to the rapidly changing environment and what the next generation of social performance approaches could look like.

There will be a pre and post drinks at reception. This is a sideline event to the African Mining Indaba 2026.
