Speakers

Kosheek Sewchurran

Professor Kosheek Sewchurran is primarily interested in organising practices and research that acknowledge the realities of a lived-experience.  This scholarship finds expression in the conversation he convenes related to Business Model Innovation, Strategy-as-practice and Leadership-as-practice.

Before he joined the UCT GSB, he was Assoc Prof and HOD of the Department of Information Systems at UCT's Faculty of Commerce. Prior to entering academia, he spent a little over a decade on manufacturing projects, working as a Systems Engineer optimising plant automation and designing and implementing enterprise information systems.

Sewchurran holds a doctorate in Project Organising (PhD) from UCT; a Master of Science in Systems Thinking (MSc) from UKZN; a Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Science (CompSci) from UKZN; and a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering and Operations Research (BSc) from UNISA.

Head: Resilience, Sustainability & Combined Assurance at Old Mutual Insure
As the Lead of Business Resilience at OM Insure, I spearhead the strategy that fortifies our operations against unforeseen challenges, ensuring continuity and robust crisis management. My expertise lies in crafting cutting-edge systems and processes that uphold our resilience, evidenced by our seamless emergency response and crisis management capabilities.

In the realm of Sustainability, I help craft the organisation’s vision into actionable sustainability initiatives that interweave environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations with our core business objectives. I champion strategic programs that address pivotal environmental and socioeconomic challenges while fostering partnerships to reinforce our sustainability commitments.

My role in Combined Assurance involves pioneering a comprehensive framework that integrates risk management and control across the organization. This entails a synergetic approach to align Assurance Providers with our corporate governance, optimizing risk oversight and control efficiencies. I stay at the forefront of governance trends to ensure our assurance processes are not just compliant, but also trailblazing.

Through diligent coordination and management of diverse stakeholder relationships, I facilitate cohesive assurance efforts that provide clear, insightful oversight into the organization’s risk landscape.

In every facet of my work, from resilience building and sustainability initiatives to comprehensive assurance strategies, I am committed to driving OM Insure's resilience, ensuring sustainable growth, and fostering an environment of unwavering trust and integrity.

Dr. Mankodi Moitse

Chief Executive Office at Kagiso Trust
Dr. Mankodi Moitse joined Kagiso Trust as Chief Executive Officer in November 2015. She also serves as Co-Chair at Kagiso Shanduka Trust (KST). An experienced Group CFO, Dr. Moitse has more than 20 years’ experience with listed and private blue-chip companies as well as public entities.

Dr. Moitse has accomplished numerous milestones throughout her career, including securing three consecutive clean audits for the City of Johannesburg, meeting all FIFA infrastructure requirements for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, initiating the first municipal ECA funding for BRT buses, and establishing two Domestic Medium-Term Note (DMTN) programmes to finance a R13 billion capital expenditure. She currently serves as the CEO of Kagiso Trust—one of Africa’s foremost development trusts—where she leads initiatives in Education, increased participation of black South Africans in agriculture and property, and support for Civil Society and Local Governance. She is passionate about supporting entrepreneurs focusing on the ecosystem. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Moitse is deeply committed to living for God’s purpose. She, along with her family, actively serves at Care Bible Church.

Notably, Dr. Moitse has held executive positions at Standard Bank and the City of Joburg. She has invested much of her time and life in her passion for technology, leadership, community & youth development. Outside of her executive hat she continues to be a life- long learner and has obtained a PHD in Technology & Entrepreneurship.
