In a world increasingly shaped by fragmentation and complexity, the call for intentional leadership has never been more urgent. These are not times that reward passive authority or inherited titles. They demand leaders who act with clarity of purpose, moral courage, and a commitment to shaping the invisible dimensions of human experience.
Intentional leadership has always been difficult. Not because it is technically complex—but because it demands something more rare: a deep, ongoing awareness of how one’s actions ripple through the emotional, moral, and psychological fabric of others. Leadership’s most vital power does not lie in issuing directives or asserting control. Its truest influence is quieter and more enduring: it shapes how people feel about themselves, the meaning they derive from their work, the horizons they envision for their futures, and the boundaries they place—consciously or unconsciously—around what they believe is possible.
At its most powerful, leadership stirs the inner life. It awakens courage where there was hesitation, brings clarity into confusion, and forges momentum from scattered intention. This is what makes leadership so profoundly compelling—and so profoundly challenging. It is not simply the orchestration of tasks, but the subtle, often unseen art of shaping belief, identity, and aspiration.
This is precisely what makes intentional leadership essential in our time. In an era marked by polycrisis—overlapping challenges in climate, inequality, governance, and mental health—what we need is not more noise or reaction, but grounded presence. We are, many of us, quietly searching for leaders who can renew hope and expand the lens of possibility. Leaders who can hold complexity without collapsing into despair, and act with intention even when the path ahead is uncertain.
Yet while many aspire to lead this way, few are given the space—or the guidance—to explore what this truly means. How do we name and nurture this complex craft that is so desperately needed? How do we learn to lead with purpose, presence, and impact in the face of uncertainty?
To help us explore these questions, we are joined by Dr. Mankodi Moitse, CEO of the Kagiso Trust, and Ntheye Lungu, Head of Resilience, Sustainability & Combined Assurance at Old Mutual. Both bring a deep well of experience in cultivating intentional leadership in response to the existential challenges facing South African and African societies today. This conversation will be hosted by Prof. Kosheek Sewchurran, whose own work bridges Leadership development, Strategy, and Complexity. Together, they invite us into a dialogue on what it means to lead with integrity and intention in times that call for nothing less.
NB This event will be In-person
