The discussion will feature distinguished business leaders and academic Prof Bonang Mohale and Author and Emeritus Professor Mias de Klerk at Stellenbosch Business School with moderation by MBA alumna Khavitha Singh, Toyota Head of Lean Management. Together, they will unpack what it means to lead with values and purpose in an increasingly complex world.

Prof Bonang Mohale

Bonang Mohale is the Chancellor of the University of the Free State, former President of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), former CEO of Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA), Professor of Practice at the Johannesburg Business School (JBS) in the Faculty of Business and Economics, and Chairman of two listed entities, The Bidvest Group Limited and ArcelorMittal, as well as SBV Services and Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Africa. He is a member of the Community of Chairpersons (CoC) of the World Economic Forum and author of three best-selling books, Lift As You Rise, Behold the Turtle and Coming in From the Cold. He has been included in the Reputation Poll International’s (RPI) 2023 list of the ‘100 Most Reputable Africans’. The selection criteria are Integrity, Reputation, Transparency, Visibility and Impact. And he is the recipient of the 2023 ME-Vision Academy Award for Exclusive Recognition in Successful Leadership.

Prof Mias De Klerk

Mias de Klerk is an Emeritus Professor at Stellenbosch Business School, a distinguished professor at Woxsen University School of Business, and a leadership consultant with more than 30 years of industry experience in various senior management positions. As an internationally recognised thought leader in leadership and organisational behaviour, he has published numerous articles in international peer-reviewed journals and at conferences on topics such as responsible leadership, workplace meaning and purpose, personal transformation, business ethics, and leading change. Drawing on his expertise as both a leadership scholar and practitioner, Mias offers valuable insights and guidance to leaders.

Meryl Pick

Meryl Pick is a Portfolio Manager at Old Mutual Investment Group and a UCT Graduate School of Business alumna. With more than two decades of experience spanning engineering, operations, banking and asset management, she has held leadership roles across a range of disciplines, from manufacturing and business improvement to investment research and portfolio management. Most recently, she served as Head of Equities Research before returning to a full-time portfolio management role. Meryl holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and Business Administration (MBA). Her work focuses on navigating complexity, making decisions amidst uncertainty, and developing high-performing teams. Passionate about learning, mentorship and values-based leadership, she brings a practical perspective on how influence, judgment, and integrity shape leadership beyond formal titles.
