POSITION: Senior Adviser, Actis
Simon Harford serves as a Senior Adviser to Actis, the US$7 billion specialist emerging markets private equity firm, and is Managing Partner of a newly launching pan-Africa Infrastructure Fund backed by GE and others.
Simon joined Actis in 2006 in Lagos and acted successively as Head of West Africa, Operating Partner for Africa, co-Head of Africa and a member of the global Executive and Compensation Committees. He lived for 5 years in Nigeria then 5 years in South Africa, and is now based in the UK.
Prior to Actis, Simon held senior management roles in the airline industry for 10 years with British Airways then as founder of three new airlines in the UK, Germany and Nigeria. He started his career in investment banking (SG Warburg) and strategy consulting (Boston Consulting Group).
Simon serves in other African advisory roles including the National Empowerment Fund of South Africa; the President of Nigeria’s Honorary Investment Council; and the African Leadership Network. He holds a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and an MBA from INSEAD. He guest teaches at INSEAD and other business schools on Business Ethics and Private Equity in Africa.
