Sustainable Business Programme

Business activities impact on the environment, communities and other social partners that share their context. The term sustainable business covers the range of organisational activities designed to move towards a low carbon future. Sustainability can no longer be seen as a compliance issue, but should become central to organisational strategy to ensure long-term viability.

Our piloted CSI and Strategic Social Engagement programmes were successful, albeit a little too focused on specific functions. We have decided to broaden the programme offering, as you will see in the programme outline (and at the same time, allow it to be more palatable time-wise to the busy manager; hence the three module vs four module approach). The programme detailed here introduces sustainability and its integration into an organisation's strategy.

The programme remains on a level 8, with three compulsory modules (of 30 credits each) in 2012, followed by an optional module in 2013 for those who wish to continue to gain the full Postgraduate Diploma qualification at 120 credits and on NQF level 8. Those who pursue modules 1-3 alone will not receive the full qualification, but will gain 90 Continuing Education Professional Development credits at NQF level 8.

Who should apply:

Middle managers who want to understand business practices and sustainability in public or private organisations; have at least 3 - 5 years management experience; and a tertiary qualification (RPL options exist). Managers in functional areas such as marketing, corporate affairs and supply chain, and those currently in sustainability, environmental or CSI functions, will benefit from enrolling. The programme draws applicants from various sectors, including the mining sector to a large extent. We also hope to draw applicants from the NGO sector.

Fees:

Non-refundable Application fee: R700 (applications will not be processed without this proof of payment)
Tuition: R40,000 (3 courses tuition, texts and course materials only)

Full fees are due before/on registration.

We do, however, rely on student numbers to run a programme. We require a class of at least 25 students. We do believe this offering is still one of the more relevant programmes of its kind world-wide and at this time hits the mark for South Africa and beyond.
