Confirmation of a place on a GSB programme is required before a study permit can be considered by the South African Department of Home Affairs. Applications should be made through your nearest South African Embassy, High Commisssion or Consulate.
Please ensure that your application form, including all enclosures, is submitted at the earliest opportunity. This will allow completion of the admission process in time for the study permit to be issued prior to the commencement of the programme.
In terms of the provisions of the Immigration Act (No 13 of 2002), an international student may not take up degree studies in South Africa without a valid study permit. Applicants should not leave their home country unless they have obtained a study permit which they will be asked to present at registration. Please note that all international students require:
- A valid passport.
- Study permit OR if in possession of a SA work permit it must be endorsed for study at UCT.
- Medical insurance (not required if stay is two weeks plus a few days or less).
