General information

International applicants should be aware that obtaining study permits from the South African authorities can take approximately two months from the date of being offered a place on the programme.

Degree verification

Official and certified English translations of all supporting documents should be submitted with an application. For verification of an applicant's qualification's equivalence to a South African undergraduate degree, applicants should contact the South African Embassy or Consulate in their own country, the Human Sciences Research Council in Pretoria, South Africa on +27 (0)12 302 2000, or the South African Qualifications Authority on 086 010 3188, +27 (0)12 431 5000 or +27 (0)12 431 5070.

South African study permit

A place on the programme must be confirmed before a study permit application can be considered by the South African Department of Home Affairs. Applications should be made through the nearest South African Embassy, Consulate or Trade Mission or directly from:

The Director General
Department of Home Affairs

Pretoria 0001
South Africa

A study permit application should include a copy of the letter offering a place on the programme, and a brief motivation to study in South Africa.

Two months should be allowed for a study permit application to be processed. To facilitate the process, the Customised Academic Learning application form, including all enclosures, should be submitted at the earliest opportunity.

Please note:
In terms of the provisions of the Aliens Control Act 1991 (Act 96 of 1991) this University is prohibited from registering a foreign student unless he/she is in possession of a valid study permit. Applicants should not leave their home country unless they have obtained a study permit which they will be asked to present at registration.
