Social Innovation Lab
The Social Innovation (SI) Lab is a pioneering addition to the core MBA programme at the GSB that seeks to support and equip purpose-driven people looking to drive social impact in emerging markets.
It is a learning laboratory that draws on people and organisations throughout South Africa and internationally. With a theoretical and practical immersion in the context of our time and place, the SI Lab asks participants to see themselves as social innovators. The course provides a dynamic academic, practical, and personal experience where students are immersed in the world of designing creative, sustainable processes towards social change using multiple learning strategies.
By the end of the course, students form their own approach to social innovation, and will have begun to develop the concepts, mind-sets, skills, and relationships that will enable them to continue to be effective agents of progress towards a more just and sustainable world, regardless of where they choose to evolve their careers, in the public, private or social sectors.
The SI Lab runs in the second half of the MBA in terms three and four.
The SI Lab has also been featured in the Inspirational Guide for the Implementation of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME): Placing sustainability at the heart of management education. The Guide provides answers to the most frequently asked questions concerning the implementation of the PRME and seeks to inspire further integration by highlighting real world examples of the Principles in practice at signatory schools and universities.
