Career Services: What we offer
Career Services
The Career Services prides itself on offering a range of services that are available to all students at the GSB, both during their courses and after they graduate. Through utilising in-house expertise, and visits from leading speakers of the day, students are exposed to a range of career options and opportunities.
We work with each student on an individual basis as well as run customised career planning session to help assess their strengths and weaknesses, help focus their career search – or expose them to careers they had not previously considered.
Workshops and Job Search Presentations
Forming the core of the job search process, workshops and presentations are arranged, focusing on career life and work planning, in association with experienced and professional career consultants. Integral to this programme are guest speakers, drawn from the alumni body and industry, who represent diverse sectors and experience. There is also a regular "Day in the life of" event, where alumni speak casually to students about the obstacles they faced on entering their particular sector and how they overcame them. Insights gained from these events have proved to be very valuable to students and also provide the opportunity to network with past graduates.
Talent Guide to UCT Graduate School of Business Students
This guide is published annually at the end of June and students from the MBA, Executive MBA Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and AIM programmes are encouraged to include their profiles. This is distributed widely to recruiting organisations and enables students to market themselves under the GSB banner. To obtain a copy, or join the mailing list, please email Fiona Erispe – Fiona.erispe@gsb.uct.ac.za.
Resource Centre
The Resource Centre houses reference material covering the job search process including information about companies as well as practical tips on how to write a CV and covering letter.
Alumni Network
Working with the Alumni Relations Office, students are encouraged to tap into the expertise of alumni through practice interviews and other networking opportunities facilitated by the Career Services Office.
CV Critique Service
In association with leading management consulting firms, CV Writing and Case Coaching Workshops are offered to students during the course of the year. These presentations give students the initial tools to write their CV’s, and once they have attended the presentations and worked through the content and design of their CV’s, the Career Services Office assists with a critique of the completed document.
