QUALIFICATIONS: BA (UCT); HDLIS, Higher Diploma in Library and Information Science (UCT); HDE (PG)Sec – Higher Diploma in Education (Post Graduate) Secondary (UCT) and Post Graduate Diploma in School Media Studies (UNISA); Train the Trainer Certificate (CPUT); Certified Mendeley Librarian
Mary has been a reference librarian for thirty years and started her career as a Reference and Information Services Librarian at UCT where she worked in initially in the Engineering and Sciences Library and then the Humanities Section. She spent five years at the National Library, Cape Town Division working with the public who wanted to access the range of resources offered by this legal deposit library – newspapers, government gazettes, South African publications and rare and archival material.
She returned to UCT and was responsible for the first UCT Libraries website, training and interacting with faculty and students to encourage and facilitate access to information.
Mary then spent nine years as a junior school librarian, where her portfolio extended to school marketing and IT support, before joining the GSB Library as the Information Services Librarian.
She is a highly experienced information services librarian with a passion for ‘access to information’ particularly in the field of training and education in order to empower library users. Excellent knowledge of electronic resources and highly computer literate. She possesses highly developed written and verbal communication skills. Customer service orientation a key driver.
