AREAS OF EXPERTISE: International human resources management (IHRM) in emerging markets and emerging market multinational companies, strategic HR and change management.
Former Dean/Director of the Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield University United Kingdom. He is Professor of International Human Resource Management with a joint appointment at the Cranfield School of Defence and Security and the Cranfield School of Management. He is Director of Defence and Security Leadership and Head of the Centre for Defence Management and Leadership. He is a member of the University’s Senior Leadership Team, and Executive Committee of Cranfield’s School of Defence and Security. He is Director of the MSc Programme in International Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Frank was previously Dean of the Graduate School of Business (GSB) University of Cape Town (UCT) and Acting Director of the UCT GSB over various periods in his 23 years at the GSB.
Frank has lived and worked in four countries - the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore and South Africa, and has been a Dean of two FT ranked top 100 business schools. He has some ten years executive experience with ICI in the UK and its then subsidiary AECI in South Africa.
He is visiting professor at the MCI Management Centre Innsbruck Austria and the Magellan Institute for International HRM in Paris. Frank has previously held visiting appointments at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) Erasmus University in the Netherlands, Nanyang Business School in Singapore, Haskayne School of Management University of Calgary, Canada, and research associate of the Industrial Relations Centre, Griffith University, Brisbane Australia
He was honoured with a lifetime achievement award in 2012 for his contribution to the human resource management profession in South Africa and internationally from the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP).
He was until recently an Executive committee member of the Association of Business Schools (ABS UK); a member of the British Academy of Management (BAM), on the Strategy Council of the Sloan Centre on Aging & Work in Boston, USA, a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), former member of the Board of Governors of the Association of African Business Schools (AABS) and former President of the South African Business Schools Association (SABSA). He is a member of the Equis Committee (European Quality Improvement System), of Equis Peer Review Team (PRT) teams and a member of AACSB PRT teams for accreditation of business schools on various continents.
