The theme for the 2017 Alumni Reunion Weekend is "SA 2020 - What lies beyond the horizon for SA Business".  

Here's what to look out for:

Friday, 20 October
For those who wish to take a tour of the GSB Philippi Campus, a shuttle will depart from the GSB Breakwater Campus at 13:30 and arrive back at the GSB Breakwater Campus by 16:00. From 16:30 until 18:00 we will enjoy drinks in the courtyard and have an opportunity to partake in a whisky, and a non-alcoholic gin tasting session.

Saturday, 21 October
Registration opens at 8:00 followed by a formal speaker session and panel discussion from 9:15 until 12:20. Thereafter, lunch will be served and a private whiskey session will be hosted in one of the lecture venues. We will conclude the day with Quad Chats around the following topics: (a) AI and Disruptive Technology and (b) Cyber Security and Fake News.

You are invited to join a panel discussion in the MTN Solution Space about the theme. Our panelists are:

Ranjeni MunusamySean Gossel
Ranjeni Munusamy is a seasoned journalist and public commentator. Ranjeni is Associate Editor of South Africa's premier online news and analysis publication Daily Maverick and is a prominent commentator on South African politics. She has over 20 years' experience in journalism and communications. She has worked at several prominent South African publications as a political correspondent.  Dr Sean Gossel's expertise at the GSB lies in the areas of finance, econometrics, financial globalization, and macroeconomics. Sean lectures finance on the MBA, macroeconomics on the EMBA, financial risk management on the MCom (Development Finance) programmes, and the MBA elective Capital Flows and Emerging Markets.


Sharon KnowlesSharron McPherson
Topic: Cyber Security and Fake News?Topic: AI and Disruptive Intelligence

Ms. Sharon Knowles a GSB Alumnus, will facilitate the Cyber Security and Fake News chat. She has over 20 years multi-channel experience in the retail and e-commerce industries spanning the areas of general business management, digital marketing, sales and fraud prevention. Currently Sharon is involved in the prevention of cyber fraud, utilising strong management and operational skills to help plan strategies as well ensure that operational risks are minimised.

During her time as an Advisor at Da Vinci Forensics and Cyber Security Specialists a Cape Town firm, Sharon focused on all levels of cyber security, forensic and risk management solutions for large and small commercial companies. She is also the Co-Founder of The Da Vinci Foundation. 

The Da Vinci Foundation has been established to ensure the cybersecurity readiness and response of public and private sector entities, including schools through education and communal activities. Including the education of youth on how to protect themselves and deal with Cyber bullying, cyber stalking and related abuses, counselling. Also focused on the development of mobile apps covering a wide range of challenges facing the youth.

Dr Sharron McPherson (AI and Disruptive Intelligence). With over 25 years' experience as an accomplished investment banker and former Wall Street attorney, Sharron's focus is in primarily three areas: (1) investing in sustainable infrastructure, energy & water projects primarily in selected markets in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA); (2) investing in start-ups and new approaches to that leverage the power of advancing technologies to transform the African landscape; and (3) teaching, speaking, collaborating and learning how to do (1) and (2) better.

As the Co-Founder of The Centre for Disruptive Technologies (CDT).Sharron is suitably placed to facilitate the chat. CDT is bringing together the best minds on the African continent, together with global thought and business leaders to build an ecosystem that positions Africa as a world-leading destination for the emergence of new technologies that make life better. We are creating new African market opportunities by leveraging the impact of disruptive technologies.

CDT is a physical "think & do" tank that collaborates with experts, disruptors, ideators, innovators, academics & researchers to solve challenges public and private businesses face related to disruption in their markets or within their organisations. CDT helps businesses to transform these challenges into opportunities.
