The 4th Industrial Revolution is an overarching theme that the GSB has adopted for its 2018 events as it seeks to promote thought leadership on the topic and address how, as a school, it equips itself and its graduates for this era. In the past month the school hosted two successful events in Durban and in Johannesburg with more planned for the months ahead.
Guest speaker Mechell Chetty, HR Vice President, Unilever Africa, explained how the 4th industrial revolution is having a massive impact on talent management processes across the world. Unilever, a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company with more than 161,000 employees in more than 150 countries, has gone digital with its entire recruitment process, shortening their hiring cycle from four months to just two weeks. Nuala Jackson Sloan, Growth and Sustainability Executive at Eskom Enterprises and Kim Thipe, Vice President for Marketing at South African Airways (SAA) were guest speakers at the inaugural UCT Graduate School of Business' (GSB) Prominent Women Speaker Series held at GSB Johannesburg in Sandton on Tuesday, 24 April. Both are alumni of the GSB. According to Sloan, complex problem solving is the most in-demand skill in today's workplace. And women, who have always been good at multi-tasking, have this skill inherently which makes them well equipped to deal with the challenges presented by the 4th industrial revolution. Read more...

Each year several classes get together to rekindle old friendships and strengthen networks through formal or informal reunions. A special comprehensive reunion service has been developed to assist alumni in planning for their anniversary celebrations at the GSB. Major anniversary celebrations (such as 10th, 25th, 30th, 40th, 45th and 50th) are given priority.
